5 Top Hiking Trails Near NYC
Here are our favorite hiking trails.
1.Gertrude’s Nose
This is our favorite hike we've done thus far on the east coast. There are so many elements that make it beautiful. We start at Lake Minnewaska, then walk through a wooded area before getting out on the gorgeous ridge line which leads to the stunning view at Gertrude's Nose.
2.Appalachian Board Walk & Stairway to Heaven
This is 2 trails in one. We start at the Appalachian trail boardwalk, which is a beautiful flat walk over this marshy area full of plant and animal life. This leads to a wooded area and then a cow pasture. Occasionally the cows might be in the way but that's part of the fun. The second part of this trail is a hike up Stairway to Heaven, leading to a gorgeous view and the perfect lunch spot. Once we get back down there's a farm that makes homemade ice cream.
3.Katterskill falls
This one is the furthest of all the hikes we're recommending but the trail has a portion along a cliff edge that has beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. This location also had the most beautiful fall foliage and autumn views. The highlights of this trail are the Kaatterskill waterfalls
4.Anthony Wayne Rec Area (during Oktoberfest)
This is a hike we do every year during Oktoberfest. It's a loop that has some scrambling and a few summits but nothing too strenuous. We go up into some great views and down into some wooded valleys on this one! After the hike, the trail ends at an authentic Oktoberfest festival full of beers, brats, and lederhosen!
5.Mt. Minsi (Winter Hike)
We hike this trail every winter because it stays green all year long. The trail is lined with rhododendrons which keep their green leaves throughout the winter. This trail includes a little waterfall and such a beautiful rewarding summit view.
